The Latin rite Diocese of Da Nang in central Vietnam was erected on 18 January 1963 and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Hue. Its cathedral is the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Da Nang. The see is sede vacante following the 2023 transfer of Bishop Joseph Dang Duc Ngan to Hue, where he now serves as archbishop while administering Da Nang.

History

Declared in its present form on January 18, 1963, the Diocese of Đà Nẵng (Latin: Dioecesis Đànẵngensis) serves central Vietnam across an area of 11,690 km² as a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Huế. Sacred Heart Cathedral in Da Nang serves as its cathedral. Joseph Đặng Đức Ngân has been bishop since 2016. By 2004 the diocese counted about 57,870 believers (2.7% of the population), 68 priests, and 38 parishes.

  • Pope Leo XIV to visit France

    Pope Leo XIV began a four-day apostolic journey to France on Friday, September 25, 2026. The trip, themed "That the World May Live," focuses on the dignity of human life and the growing number of people joining the Church in France. During his first day in Paris, the Pope met with President Emmanuel Macron, civil society, and the diplomatic corps at the Élysée Palace. He also visited the UNESCO headquarters and held evening prayer with bishops, priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters, and seminarians at Notre-Dame de Paris. Later that night, he joined young people for a prayer vigil at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. The itinerary includes a visit to Lourdes on September 26 and 27, where he will meet with the French Bishops' Conference, celebrate Mass, and pray at the Massabielle cave. On the final day, September 28, the Pope is scheduled to visit Metz for an interreligious meeting to discuss European roots, peace, and unity.

  • Diocese of Đà Nẵng updates website with PWA and church finder

    The Diocese of Đà Nẵng has added two new features to its website to help people find churches and access Mass times. The updates include a tool to locate churches, check Mass schedules, and view directions, as well as PWA technology that allows users to open the website on a smartphone like a mobile application. The diocese's communications office implemented these changes to address frequent social media inquiries regarding Mass schedules. Using this technology allows the diocese to provide an app-like experience without the costs of developing and maintaining a separate mobile application. To assist with navigation, the diocese updated Google Maps with location and direction data for all churches within the Diocese of Đà Nẵng. This allows users to connect their searches directly to driving directions.

  • Diocese of Bùi Chu to dedicate new cathedral on 25/09/2026

    The Diocese of Bùi Chu will celebrate the inauguration and consecration of its new cathedral on Friday, September 25, 2026. The Mass is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. The diocese decided to rebuild the cathedral after the original structure, built in 1885 under Bishop Venceslao Onate Thuận, suffered severe deterioration from harsh northern weather. Despite renovations in 1974 and 2000, the diocese determined the old building could no longer be repaired. Following consultations with priests and prayer, the bishop decided to reconstruct the cathedral. Construction began with woodworking on October 7, 2018, and the demolition of the old structure took place on July 16, 2020. The project was completed through the contributions of people within and outside the diocese.
