The Latin rite Diocese of Qui Nhon on Vietnam's south-central coast was elevated to a diocese on 24 November 1960, succeeding the Apostolic Vicariate of Quinhon. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Hue, its cathedral is the Cathedral of the Assumption in Qui Nhon.

History

Central Vietnam is served by the Diocese of Qui Nhơn, a name also written as Quy Nhơn (Latin: Dioecesis Quinhonensis; Vietnamese: Giáo phận Qui Nhơn). The creation of the diocese in its present form was declared on 24 November 1960. Its bishop is Matthieu Nguyễn Văn Khôi. Before Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of the diocese on December 31, 2009, he had served as rector of Assumption Cathedral in Quy Nhơn and as professor at the Stella Maris Major Seminary of Nha Trang.
