Immaculate Conception parish in the Melrose section of the South Bronx was established in 1853 and is staffed by the Redemptorist Fathers; the present Romanesque Revival church was completed in 1887. It serves a diverse community with bilingual English and Spanish liturgy and is a spiritual anchor for the South Bronx.
