The relics of Saint Camillus de Lellis will return to Rome on November 1
The body of Saint Camillus de Lellis, founder of the Camilliani, will be moved from Abruzzo to the church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Campo Marzio on November 1. The relics will be placed in the Valadier urn, where the saint has rested since his canonization in 1746. During the transfer, the relics will stop at various Roman churches and hospitals connected to the history of the saint.
Father Lorenzo Lettere, coordinator of the chaplaincy at the San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital, said the body returned to Bucchianico last April. The move to Rome follows the 450th anniversary of the saint's conversion. Saint Camillus lived at Santa Maria Maddalena in the late 1500s and traveled from there to serve at the nearby Santo Spirito hospital.
