Liturgy
Indianapolis will host the 11th National Eucharistic Congress in 2029, Bishop Andrew H. Cozzens announced during a dinner at the Omni Severin Hotel on Oct. 20. Cozzens, the chairman of the board for National Eucharistic Congress Inc. and bishop of the Diocese of Crookston, Minnesota, revealed the location to attendees following a Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church.
Organizers selected Indianapolis due to its central location and existing infrastructure after considering various cities and venues across the country. The decision aims to build on the momentum of the 10th congress held in the city in July 2024, which drew more than 60,000 Catholics.
During the Mass, Archbishop Charles C. Thompson of Indianapolis served as principal celebrant, with Cozzens and Bishop Timothy L. Doherty of Lafayette, Indiana, concelebrating. In his homily, Thompson noted that the upcoming congress should reflect the ongoing blessings from the National Eucharistic Revival.
A press release from the organization noted that the 2024 gathering resulted in increased participation in confession and adoration, greater reverence during Mass, and more confidence among priests preaching on the Real Presence.
