Bishop Erik Pohlmeier Celebrates Mass at Marian Spirituality Celebration
Bishop Erik Pohlmeier celebrated Mass at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche in St. Augustine during the Marian Spirituality Celebration on Sunday, Oct. 11. The event coincided with the Feast of Our Lady of La Leche, leading clergy in the Diocese of St. Augustine to wear white vestments instead of the green typically worn for the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
The celebration included talks from Bishop Emeritus Felipe Estévez and Father Tim Lindenfelser, the rector of the National Shrine. During his homily, Bishop Pohlmeier used the image of Mary breastfeeding Jesus to illustrate how people rely on Jesus in their daily lives.
Hundreds of people attended the festivities, resulting in a standing-room-only crowd for the Mass in the shrine's main church. Christian Formation Director Erin McGeever noted that seminarians assisted with the event to help manage the large number of attendees.
