Archdiocese of Braga establishes São Martinho Academy
The Archdiocese of Braga has canonically established the São Martinho Academy to provide Christian-inspired intellectual, human, spiritual, pastoral, and cultural formation. Archbishop José Cordeiro signed the decree on October 22, establishing the academy as a public juridic person. The institution is based at the Espaço Vita Cultural and Pastoral Center.
The academy intends to support the Church's pastoral work in liturgy, catechesis, and charity. Its statutes aim to provide systematic training on the Christian faith, prepare individuals for evangelization, and develop contemporary artistic and cultural languages.
The academy will train liturgical agents, including acolytes, readers, communion ministers, choir masters, singers, psalmists, organists, instrumentalists, sacristans, caretakers, and hospitality teams to improve the quality of liturgical celebrations. Additional activities will include retreats, congresses, conferences, debates, concerts, exhibitions, book launches, and study visits.
