Cardinal Koovakad, Jains discuss nonviolence (CBCEW)
Cardinal George Koovakad met with representatives of the Jain community in London on October 20 to discuss promoting nonviolence for global peace. The meeting focused on the theme of Ahimsa, or nonviolence, as a way for Jains and Catholics to address various forms of violence in the world.
Mehool Sanghrajka, managing trustee of the Institute of Jainology, said the conference reaffirmed a shared commitment between Jains and Christians to compassion and peace. Sanghrajka noted that the groups agreed to speak with a united voice to help create a stronger moral and ethical framework for addressing global challenges.
During his visit to the United Kingdom, Cardinal Koovakad, who serves as the prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, also signed an interreligious peace pledge, met with other religious leaders, and celebrated Mass at Westminster Cathedral.
