Cardinal Michael Czerny receives Pope Leo XIV Sustainability Medal

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Villanova University presented Cardinal Michael Czerny with the Pope Leo XIV Sustainability Medal on Tuesday evening, October 13, at the Laudato Si’ Village in the Pontifical Villas of Castel Gandolfo. The international award recognizes leadership and commitment to environmental protection, social justice, and the protection of vulnerable people.

Cardinal Czerny, the prefect emeritus of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, called for humanity to urgently adopt new behaviors to protect the environment. He attributed his interest in nature to the influence of his parents and their commitment to recycling.

Cardinal Fabio Baggio, the pro-prefect of the Dicastery, said the goal is to create new models that balance environmental responsibility with human flourishing.
