Cardinal Tagle to lead Macau diocese’s 450th anniversary celebration

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will lead the 450th anniversary celebrations for the Diocese of Macau on October 31. Tagle, the dean of the College of Cardinals and pro-prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization, will preside over an anniversary Mass at 5 p.m. at Forum de Macau.

At 10 a.m. that morning, Tagle will deliver a talk titled Magnifica Humanitas: Synodal Ways for Evangelization in Asia at the Macau Bishops’ House.

Pope Gregory XIII established the diocese on January 23, 1576. The diocese historically served as a missionary center for East Asia, with jurisdiction that once included China, Japan, Korea, northern Vietnam, and parts of Southeast Asia.
