Caritas Indonesia hands over 100 houses to flood-affected residents in Central Tapanuli

Caritas Indonesia handed over 100 permanent houses to residents in Lubuk Ampolu Village, Badiri District, Central Tapanuli Regency, on September 16, 2026. The Chairman of the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference, Msgr. Antonius Subianto Bunjamin, conducted the handover for people affected by flash floods and landslides that hit the Sumatra region in November 2025.

The project is part of the Compassionate Home Movement led by the Caritas Indonesia network and receives support from Caritas Internationalis through the Emergency Appeal 23/2025 program. Caritas Indonesia is currently finishing the construction of about 200 additional homes.

In the Diocese of Sibolga, the Caritas Diocese of Sibolga and the Capuchin Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation commission support these efforts. The floods in North Sumatra previously damaged approximately 4,900 houses across Sibolga City, Central Tapanuli Regency, and South Tapanuli Regency. Msgr. Antonius stated that the new units are intended to provide dignified housing and restore hope to those who lost their homes.
