Minister of Telecommunications Charles El Haj met with Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rai on Saturday, October 3, 2026, to wish him a successful trip to Rome. El Haj conveyed well wishes from President Joseph Aoun and emphasized the importance of the Bkerke patriarchal seat in representing Lebanese causes and protecting state institutions.

During the meeting, El Haj discussed regional shifts and suggested that Lebanon could benefit from its geographic location as interest in strategic land routes grows amid challenges in maritime passages like the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. He noted that Lebanon could become an active participant in these changes if it prepares its energy, electricity, transport, railway, and infrastructure sectors.

El Haj stated that Lebanon needs the vision and institutions necessary to attract large-scale investments and transition from a crisis-based economy to a knowledge-based economy. He suggested that the country must prepare for upcoming opportunities by improving its economic corridors and infrastructure.
