Catholic Relief Services aid convoy comes under attack in Ethiopia

A drone strike hit a Catholic Relief Services humanitarian convoy in Tigray, Ethiopia, injuring a driver and a young girl, according to a report from Addis Standard. The convoy was transporting 41 metric tons of food intended for internally displaced people in the region.

The aid operation was part of the Joint Emergency Operation Program and was contracted through the Adigrat Diocesan Catholic Secretariat. The Catholic Eparchy of Adigrat condemned the strike and requested that international humanitarian law be used to protect aid routes, supplies, and workers.

The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs also condemned the drone strike on September 22 and requested a full investigation into the incident.
