‘Christ is our leader’: Nigerian Catholic Community celebrate Father’s Day

The Nigerian Catholic Community in the Diocese of Parramatta celebrated Father’s Day with a special Mass on Sunday, September 6, at Holy Family Church in Granville. Members of the Nigerian Catholic Men Organisation, families, and young people gathered to honor fatherhood and the role of Catholic men within their families, the Church, and the community.

Vicar General Father Peter Williams AM served as the principal celebrant. He was joined at the altar by the Nigerian Community Chaplain, Father Bartholomew Chukwukerem, and priests Father Stephen Onyekwere, Father Philip Alesin, Father Vincent Ojo, and Father Camillus Nwahia.

Father Bartholomew described the event as a day of thanksgiving that coincided with the Church’s Season of Creation. He noted that the community follows the motto, Christ is our leader. During his homily, Father Peter spoke about the importance of belonging to the Church community, stating that faith is a shared experience lived together with others rather than just an individual one.
