Decree Promulgating Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Services

Bishop Frank J. Caggiano issued a decree for the Diocese of Bridgeport requiring all individuals and entities working in diocesan health care services to follow the seventh edition of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.

The order, which took effect September 23, 2026, applies to any physical, moral, or canonical person involved in health care apostolates within the diocese. Bishop Caggiano stated the decree aims to protect the integrity of faith, moral principles, and Church discipline.

The bishop also ordered that chaplains assigned to health care ministry receive copies of both the directives and the decree. The provisions are to be published in the diocesan newspaper, The Fairfield County Catholic, and on the official diocesan website.
