Diocese of Ancona–Osimo holds missionary vigil

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Bishop Angelo Spina presided over a diocesan missionary vigil at the Cathedral of San Ciriaco to mark the centenary of the World Mission Day. The event followed the theme "One in Christ, United in Mission," which Pope Leo XIV selected for the 2026 World Mission Day.

The celebration included songs, dances, and colors from communities representing Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Latin America. During a procession, members of the communities from Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo danced with the Gospel book to the altar, where the archbishop placed it on the ambo.

The vigil consisted of four segments involving scripture readings, symbolic gestures, testimonies, and prayers for the five continents. During the first segment, participants prayed for forgiveness regarding indifference and division, while some people placed small stones at the foot of the cross to symbolize hardness of heart.
