“Do not limit yourselves,” New VC of Catholic University of Eastern Africa Tells Graduates
Fr. Elias Omondi Opongo, the newly installed Vice Chancellor and Rector of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, urged graduates to use their skills and values to address societal challenges during the university's 45th graduation ceremony on Friday, October 23.
Fr. Omondi, a member of the Society of Jesus, told the graduates that success depends on creativity, adaptability, and digital relevance rather than academic degrees alone. He noted that a degree provides the tools to think, solve problems, and question assumptions, but should not limit a person's potential. He suggested that graduates, such as those in education, could use their training to create digital learning platforms to reach many learners.
The Vice Chancellor was installed on Thursday, October 22.
