Fr. Jaime Moisés Suade urges Christians to stand against injustice

Fr. Jaime Moisés Suade told Christians in Mozambique they must not remain silent regarding injustice, greed, and the abuse of power. Speaking during a Thanksgiving Mass on September 13, the priest, who serves as the delegate of the Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Quelimane, urged the faithful to turn their faith into social action.

Fr. Suade made these remarks following the June 6 murder of Bishop Osório Citora Afonso. He stated that the death of the bishop should not cause Christians to withdraw from their responsibilities to the Church and society. He cautioned against inaction while others attempt to silence those defending the truth and the common good.

The priest noted that Bishop Osório had various projects and dreams intended to help the Christian community and society grow. Fr. Suade said those remaining in the diocese have a responsibility to carry these works forward rather than isolating themselves.
