Ghana’s Religious Congregations Urged to Put Christ’s Mission First, Share Resources
Religious congregations in Ghana are encouraged to prioritize the mission of Christ over institutional self-interest and to collaborate more closely through shared resources and ministries. This call was made in a communiqué issued by the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious, Ghana (CMSR-GH) following a plenary assembly held from October 6 to 10 at the In-Service Training Centre in the Diocese of Wa.
Sr. Lucy Hometowu, president of the CMSR-GH and Mother Superior of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church, stated that the conference seeks to address declining vocations, aging memberships, and financial difficulties. The assembly, which included delegates from more than 20 congregations of men and women, focused on the theme of finding synodal paths to mission sustainability.
The conference called for renewed commitment to training future leaders and managing resources responsibly. Sr. Hometowu urged member institutes to implement these commitments within their communities to better serve vulnerable populations and respond to new challenges.
