Istituto Europeo del Restauro Restores Four Sacristies in Palazzolo Acreide

The European Institute of Restoration has completed the restoration of 4 sacristies in Palazzolo Acreide. The project, titled "Restauro, Scienza e Comunità a Palazzolo Acreide – Patrimonio Unesco," began in February 2026 and involved the parishes of San Nicolò Vescovo – Chiesa Madre, the Basilica di San Paolo Apostolo, the Parrocchia di San Sebastiano Martire, and the Parrocchia di San Michele Arcangelo.

The work restored wooden furnishings to make the pieces legible again. The project included an international training program and specialist courses for young restorers from Italy, France, Spain, Slovakia, Romania, China, Guatemala, Chile, Argentina, and Australia.

The program also provided meetings for the citizenship and site visits for schools, residents, and tourists. The project was sponsored by the Touring Club Italiano, the Assessorato dei Beni Culturali e dell’Identità della Regione Siciliana, and the Comune di Palazzolo Acreide.
