Diocese of Chiavari to include Val d’Aveto on November 15

The Val d’Aveto will officially join the Diocese of Chiavari on November 15.

The transfer follows the conclusion of the process at the Holy See, where the Dicastery for Bishops gave its assent. Archbishop Filippo Iannone, the prefect of the Dicastery, signed the decree, which was also sent to Italian authorities to ensure the change is recognized under civil law.

Bishop Giampio Devasini of Chiavari stated that the move is a historic step for the communities in Val d’Aveto. He noted that the change aims to renew the commitment to caring for the faith and lives of the people in the area. The Diocese of Piacenza-Bobbio had previously considered moving the territory to Chiavari because many residents use services in the Tigullio region for school, work, and healthcare. The move also places the area closer to Chiavari to allow for more direct pastoral care.
