Make Christian Service a Daily Practice, Kenyan Catholic Bishop Urges Faithful
Bishop Obed Muriungi Karobia urged Christians in Kenya to make serving others a daily habit rather than a seasonal occurrence. During a Mass requested by Caritas Nairobi at the Holy Family Basilica on October 5, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi used the observance of Customer Service Week to encourage the faithful to express love through regular acts of service.
Bishop Karobia, a member of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, told the congregation that service should be motivated by genuine concern for those in need rather than a desire for recognition or media attention. Reflecting on the parable of the Good Samaritan, he said people are facing many difficulties and urged the faithful to act as brothers and sisters to their neighbors to help build a better country.
The bishop also cautioned against changing the Gospel to meet societal expectations or to please others. He stated that the Gospel should be proclaimed to bring about true conversion and transformation.
