Maribor Archbishop Cvikl gives Mass at start of academic year
Archbishop Alojzij Cvikl celebrated Mass in Maribor on October 14, 2026, to mark the start of the new academic year. During the liturgy, he encouraged students to view their studies as a period for intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth.
In his address, Cvikl warned that intelligence without heart results in a narrow and cold intellect. He advised students to set high goals and develop their talents while maintaining prayer, relationships, and reflections on their vocation.
The archbishop also addressed the use of artificial intelligence in education. He cautioned that technology must not replace human conscience or relationships, noting the risks that AI poses to critical thinking, reading literacy, and academic integrity. He described the University Parish as a place for meeting and guidance, wishing students maturity and a personal relationship with God.
