Bishop Frank J. Caggiano blesses Cohen Family Building

Bishop Frank J. Caggiano blessed and dedicated the Cohen Family Building on Thursday, October 1, providing a larger space for Catholic Charities Stamford and its New Covenant Center. The renovated 13,500-square-foot facility at 507 Shippan Avenue serves people facing hunger and homelessness in Stamford.

The building is named for the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Foundation, which served as the lead donor for the capital campaign. During the grand opening, which was attended by approximately 110 guests including public officials and social service leaders, Mike Donoghue, executive director of Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, said the opening strengthens the community by helping families build stable, independent futures.

Bishop Caggiano spoke about the difficult choices residents face regarding food, medicine, and housing costs. He described Catholic Charities as a way for the Church to act as the hands, feet, heart, and voice of the Lord for those in need. The event included remarks from Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons, U.S. Congressman Jim Himes, and Connecticut Attorney General William Tong before the Bishop joined guests to cut the ribbon.
