Parishioners of Rychaltice seal a new time capsule in the tower of St. Nicholas Church
Parishioners in Rychaltice sealed a new copper time capsule containing messages for future generations. The capsule includes contemporary banknotes, coins, photographs, postcards, and newspapers, including the diocesan bulletin.
The new capsule will be placed in the tower of St. Nicholas Church alongside an original capsule dating from 1945. Parishioners recovered the older capsule in early September during repairs to the cross atop the tower. The repairs were necessary because the cross had begun to tilt due to damage to the spire's wooden support post.
Father David Tyleček, the pastor in Rychaltice, noted that the 1945 capsule was placed in the tower following the reconstruction of the church. The building had been damaged by shelling during the liberation at the end of the second world war, which caused the tower to collapse. The parish rebuilt the tower and roof between May and October of that year.
The new capsule and the repaired cross are scheduled to be returned to the top of the tower during the coming week.
