Penafiel hosts initial meeting for the Diocese of Porto synod

The Peroselo parish in Penafiel hosted the first stage of the Diocese of Porto synod for the Castelo de Paiva – Penafiel vicariate. Approximately 185 members of pastoral councils attended the session.

The meeting, organized by the Synodal Commission, was led by Father Sérgio Leal, a specialist in pastoral theology and synodality. The session included a theoretical presentation on the objectives of the synod and a practical period of community discernment using the "Conversation in the Spirit" method.

The diocesan synod follows the motto "Being Porto: Form – Reform – Transform." This synodal process began at Pentecost 2026 and is scheduled to continue until Pentecost 2028.
