Before leaving the hospital around 3:30 p.m., the pope spoke with Varvara, a 13-year-old Ukrainian girl who had previously met him during her own cancer treatment. With the help of a Ukrainian priest acting as a translator, the girl told the pope that an embrace he gave her before her surgery in December had provided her with the strength to overcome her illness.
