Pope Leo XIV to participate in Sydney Eucharistic Congress in 2028

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV will participate in the 54th International Eucharistic Congress in Sydney in 2028. Auxiliary Bishop Richard Umbers, the secretary general for the event, announced that the congress, known as Eucharist28, will take place from September 24 to October 1, 2028.

The gathering marks the centenary of the 29th International Eucharistic Congress held in Sydney in 1928. A theological symposium will precede the main event from September 20 to 22 to explore the theology of the Blessed Sacrament. Bishop Umbers stated that the congress intends to encourage Australian Catholics to rediscover the Eucharist as the center of Christian life and to bring more faithful to Mass.
