Pope Leo XIV to pray for mental health pastoral care

Catholic IntelligenceUpdated 1 min read

Pope Leo XIV is calling on the Church to pray for people struggling with mental health issues and those who care for them. In his prayer intention for October 2026, the Pope asked for support for individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses.

The Pope asked for forgiveness for instances where the Church may have contributed to the stigma and discrimination faced by those with mental health conditions. He requested that pastoral communities become safe, welcoming spaces that listen without judgment and include everyone.

The prayer also asks for strength and compassion for professionals, family members, and volunteers who support those with mental health challenges. Pope Leo XIV expressed a desire for the Church to integrate mental health care into the mission of all its communities.
