RCIA and Sacramental leaders renew their calling
The Parish Renewal Team of the Archdiocese of Sydney held a half-day retreat for RCIA and sacramental coordinators and their team members to prepare for rising interest in the Catholic faith. Varun Perera, the RCIA and sacramental coordinator with the Parish Renewal Team, noted a steady increase in interest across the archdiocese as Eucharist 2028 approaches.
The retreat included Mass, Lectio Divina, and Eucharistic adoration. Fr. Matthew Meagher, the parish priest of St. Brendan’s Annandale and an RCIA coordinator, delivered a keynote address based on the theme of Christ as a friend. He spoke about living out this friendship through prayer to help others encounter Christ through ministry.
The need for refreshed ministries follows growing numbers of people seeking to join the Church. At All Saints parish in Liverpool, RCIA leader Christine Solomon reported that the number of inquirers grew from six to 18 over three years.
