Hiroshima survivor to speak at peace meeting in Milan
The Community of Sant’Egidio invites the public to a meeting with Koko Kondo, a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, on Thursday, October 29, at 18:00. The event will be held at via Mosè Bianchi 94 in Milan.
Kondo, who was an infant when the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, will speak about her life as a witness for peace and nuclear disarmament. The meeting is organized by the Sant’Egidio youth movement, Giovani per la Pace, in collaboration with the Forum delle Religioni a Milano, the Consiglio delle Chiese Cristiane di Milano, and PIME. It is intended for students from Milanese schools and universities to discuss alternatives to rearmament and violence.
Kondo is currently in Italy for the Sant’Egidio international meeting in Assisi, titled "Pace disarmata e disarmante," which runs from October 25 to October 27. The Milan event commemorates the interreligious peace meeting held in Assisi on October 27, 1986.
