“The talents we receive are meant to serve others”: Catholic Bishop in Mozambique to Graduates

Bishop Inácio Lucas Mwita of the Diocese of Gurúè urged university graduates to use their knowledge and skills to serve others during a thanksgiving Mass on Thursday, September 24.

Addressing hundreds of students from the Catholic University of Mozambique, Bishop Mwita said that academic training should contribute to human development and the common good. He explained that both natural abilities and skills acquired through study, effort, and experience are gifts from God intended to benefit society rather than just the individual.

Reflecting on the parable of the talents, the bishop told the graduates that their education carries a responsibility toward society. He warned that using personal abilities selfishly can cause division, whereas using them for the benefit of others can strengthen communities. He added that the greatest failure is not lacking talent, but failing to make a talent productive.
