The Carmel of Mary Monastery near Wahpeton is a cloister of Carmelite nuns of the ancient observance (O.Carm.), founded November 1, 1954. The grounds host the public Shrine of Our Lady of the Prairies, site of an annual August pilgrimage since 1957.
