Church of St. James the Apostle

Las Vegas, NV

St. James the Apostle was the second Catholic church in Las Vegas, opening in 1940 as a mission on the Westside. Once predominantly Latino, by the mid-1960s it became a largely Black parish served by socially active clergy, and it relocated to its current Martin Luther King Boulevard home in the 1990s. It remains known for its gospel choir and celebration of Black Catholic identity.
