Holy Spirit Catholic Church is located at 400 Academy Heights Road in Kinston, North Carolina. The church serves the community with its mission statement: "The Holy Spirit Parish Family strives to live as Jesus' Body where there is no distinction of race, gender, or economic condition." Founded in 1916 when the home of Johanna Ennis hosted Eucharistic celebrations, it later became a mission for blacks. In 1938, Father David Gannon succeeded Father Michael Shugue and oversaw the construction of buildings on East Washington Street. Holy Spirit continues to be an integral part of Kinston's Catholic community.
