Saint Sharbel

Raleigh, NC

Saint Sharbel Maronite Catholic Mission in Raleigh, North Carolina, was established in 1996 by a group of Maronite families who sought to regularly celebrate the Divine Liturgy. Initially supported by St. Michael the Archangel Maronite Church in Fayetteville, NC, the community moved its worship from Sacred Heart Cathedral to Cardinal Gibbons High School chapel. On January 16, 2000, Bishop Stephen Hector Doueihi officially recognized the mission as Saint Sharbel and appointed Fr. Joseph Thomas as its founding pastor. The parish continues to preserve and practice the Eastern Maronite Catholic Rite traditions within the Eparchy of St. Maron of Brooklyn, New York.
