St. Joseph

St. Joseph Catholic Church is located in Tampa, Florida. Established in 1896 by the Sisters of the Holy Name, the parish began as St. Joseph’s School in a converted cigar factory in West Tampa. The first mass was celebrated on November 29, 1896, with seventy attendees. Father William Tyrrell served as the first pastor and recognized the need for a dedicated church building. The first church, completed in 1903, seated 200 people. Over the years, various religious orders managed the school and parish, including the Jesuits, Salesians, and Redemptorists. Today, St. Joseph remains an integral part of Tampa’s Catholic community.
