St. Mary

St. Mary Catholic Church in Tampa, FL was formally established in January 1966 by Archbishop Joseph Hurley. The first pastor was Fr. James A. Larkin. Initially, Mass was celebrated at Seely’s Restaurant before moving to Mort Elementary School. Groundbreaking for the current church began in August 1967, and the first Mass was held on March 31, 1968, with over 480 parishioners. Some original families from the early days continue to be part of the community today.
