St. Thomas the Apostle

Homosassa, FL

St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church serves the community of Homosassa, Florida. Founded as a mission of St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Crystal River in 1972, it was established as a "Mission Parish" with 200 families in 1984 under the leadership of Rev. James Hoge, O.S.B. The church, located on a 12-acre parcel, includes a multi-purpose building that served both as a church and meeting hall. On January 16, 1986, Bishop W. Thomas Larkin dedicated the new church. In May 1987, Fr. Martin Obert became the first pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. The parish includes a separate chapel and office facility, and has grown to become the fifth Catholic Church in Citrus County.
