Saint Teresa Parish

San Francisco, CA

St. Teresa Parish is located in San Francisco, California. Its history began in 1880 when Archbishop Joseph Sadoc Alemany designated it as a parish rather than a mission of St. Peter’s. The first pastor, Father John Kemmery, started the parish in a hotel dining room and later at Twentieth and Third Streets. In 1892, land was purchased at 19th and Tennessee Streets for a new church, which was completed that same year. The school followed on Pennsylvania Avenue and 19th Street. After several pastors and renovations, including a significant fire in 1932 that brought the community together to rebuild, St. Teresa Parish continues to serve its community with faith and inclusivity.
