Saint John the Baptist Parish is located in Milpitas, California, serving a diverse and vibrant community. Established as a mission in 1866 and becoming a parish in 1877, it was the first Roman Catholic Church in Milpitas. The original church stood near the current parking lot off Main Street from 1872 to 1901. After burning down, a second church with a tall steeple was built on the same site until the late 1960s when it too was deemed unsafe. In 1971, the current church facing Able Street was dedicated. The parish continues its mission as a community of active disciples, inclusive and collaborative, involved in vibrant liturgy and service to the broader community.
