St. Maria Goretti Parish celebrates over 60 years as a Catholic community in San Jose, California. Founded in July 1961 to serve the growing southward expansion of the San Jose metropolitan area, the parish initially consisted of about 60 families and was located on orchard land off Senter Road near Capitol Expressway. The first Mass was celebrated in a garage altar, and construction of the current church began in March 1962, completed by March 3, 1963, with Archbishop Joseph McGucken presiding at the dedication. Over the years, St. Maria Goretti has grown into a large, multicultural family known for faith formation, sacramental celebrations, and community outreach.
