St. Mary of the Pines Church

LA

St. Mary of the Pines Church serves the Shreveport areas of Summer Grove, Southern Hills, and Keithville. Established in 1973 by a group of Catholics, it was named after Mary, the Mother of God, following a gift of land from Holy Trinity Church. The first pastor, Father Hugh Biggare, led the parish as it began using auditoriums at local schools and other churches for services until construction on its permanent home began in 1974. Vandegaer Hall, dedicated in 1975, now serves as a Parish Hall and combines assembly space with offices and classrooms. The parish celebrates its feast day on September 8.
