St. John the Baptist

St. John the Baptist-Holy Angels Parish is located in Newark, Delaware. The parish traces its origins back to pre-Revolutionary times when a log structure known as St. Patrick’s Inn served as one of the first Mass sites in the area. In 1866, Father William Blake began celebrating monthly Masses in various homes until the railroad made it easier for worshippers to travel from Newark to Elkton for services. In 1868, Charles A. Murphy donated a wood frame structure to the parish, which was named St. Patrick’s and later renamed St. John the Baptist. The current church stands on the site of this original mission church.
