St. Joseph

St. Joseph Catholic Church is located in Wilmington, Delaware. It began as a mission on October 10, 1889, serving the African American community segregated by Jim Crow laws. Founded with fifty parishioners by Father John de Ruyter of the Society of St. Joseph (SSJ), it grew significantly over the years, including the establishment of an orphanage in 1893 and the construction of a new church after a fire in 1945. The church continues to thrive, offering various parish activities such as its annual picnic and Palm Sunday Breakfast.
