St. Joseph Calasanctius Parish

Jefferson, OH

St. Joseph Calasanctius Parish serves the community of Jefferson, Ohio, within the Diocese of Youngstown. The parish traces its origins back to 1858 when Bishop Josue Young visited at the request of a young Catholic girl and celebrated Mass in an apple orchard. After several years, a mission church was built in 1869 but was destroyed by arson shortly after. Construction began on the current frame church dedicated to St. Joseph Calasanctius in 1876. By the early 1920s, the parish had outgrown its building and embarked on a campaign to construct a new, modern church. Faith formation programs for children and adults are ongoing, focusing on education and deeper faith development. The parish also collaborates with other local parishes to offer additional opportunities for spiritual growth.
