History

The present Latin diocese of Ariano Irpino-Lacedonia (Latin: Dioecesis Arianensis Hirpina-Laquedoniensis) came into being in 1986, when the Diocese of Ariano and the Diocese of Lacedonia were merged. A suffragan of the Archdiocese of Benevento, it takes in twenty towns in the province of Avellino, three in that of Benevento, and one in the province of Foggia, with 43 parishes across its territory.
