The Territorial Abbey of Montevergine, a Benedictine territorial abbey in Campania, Italy, within the ecclesiastical province of Benevento, grew from the monastery founded by St. William of Vercelli around 1120 and consecrated in 1124. Its abbey church is the Marian sanctuary of Santa Maria di Montevergine, a major pilgrimage shrine whose present basilica was built in 1961. Riccardo Luca Guariglia, O.S.B., is the 106th abbot ordinary.
