Latin-rite apostolic prefecture based in Baku, covering Azerbaijan, established 11 October 2000 as the Mission sui iuris of Baku and promoted to apostolic prefecture on 4 August 2011. It is exempt, directly subject to the Holy See, and served by Salesians of Don Bosco. Bishop Vladimir Fekete, S.D.B. has been prefect apostolic since 2011.

History
Catholic mission territory in Azerbaijan is organised as the Apostolic Prefecture of Azerbaijan, based in Baku, the capital. Exempt from any ecclesiastical province, it answers directly to the Holy See. Its presence in Baku comprises one church and four chapels, among them its pro-cathedral, the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The prefecture's legal standing rests on the local law of the Azerbaijan Republic, and it enjoys a special status through the Concordat signed by Pope John Paul II and former president Heydar Aliyev.
