Armenian Catholic Church
Armenian-rite ordinariate established by Pope John Paul II on 13 July 1991 for Armenian Catholics in Eastern Europe, principally the former Soviet republics of Armenia, Georgia, Russia and Ukraine. Its cathedral see is the Cathedral of the Holy Martyrs in Gyumri, Armenia. Archbishop Kevork Noradounguian has served as ordinary since 21 August 2024.

History
For faithful of the Armenian Catholic Church (Eastern Catholic, Armenian Rite in Armenian language) living in certain Eastern European ex-Soviet countries that lack a proper Ordinary for their particular church sui iuris, the Church maintains the Armenian Catholic Ordinariate of Eastern Europe, an Ordinariate (quasi-diocese). It is exempt, belonging to no ecclesiastical province and answering immediately to the Holy See, notably the Roman Congregation for the Oriental Churches.

Patriarch Hovhannes Paul II delivered farewell remarks at Zvartnots Airport to thank Armenian officials and Church leaders for their hospitality during his visit. The Patriarch expressed gratitude to President Kocharyan and government members for their welcome. He also thanked civil and military officials, media representatives, and staff for their assistance during the visit. Addressing the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Patriarch thanked the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos, the clergy, and the faithful for the spirit of brotherhood and communion shared during his stay. He specifically mentioned Archbishop Nerses, Archbishop Vardan, and Bishop Giuseppe. The Patriarch noted that the Pope keeps the Armenian people in his heart and offered prayers for strength to face future challenges. He concluded by expressing hope that followers of Christ will grow in trust and ecumenical friendship as they move toward the third millennium.

A sermon was delivered at the new Saint Gregory the Illuminator Mother Church in Yerevan to celebrate the cathedral as a monument to seventeen centuries of faith in Armenia. The ceremony served as an ecumenical occasion held alongside the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. This gathering followed a previous joint prayer at Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, where participants honored relics of Saint Gregory the Illuminator. The President of the Republic attended the meeting, which the speaker described as a sign of the belief that the nation prospers through mutual respect and cooperation between its institutions. The speaker also extended greetings to the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, Aram I, and the Armenian Patriarchs of Jerusalem and Constantinople.
